A few weeks ago (back when I was still employed and hadn't gone to Florida on vacation), I learned that my friend A had been invited to an extraordinary event. It seems the 3-year-old daughter of a dear friend got to choose one special person to bring into school and introduce to the class. She choose A. Obviously, because A is for Awesome. But I digress. The special day is Thursday morning (tomorrow) & it's on the south shore of Boston, about an hour from where A (who is car-free) lives & 2 hours from us. When we learned of this several weeks ago, we were thrilled. And conveniently, we'll be in Providence tonight for a show--also south of the city. Back when I was employed that meant taking 2 cars there--one leaving from Camberville & one leaving from the north shore. She could simply take one & I would pick it up Thursday or Friday after work. Ummmmm...??? Since then I have been to Florida & back, laid off, job-hunting & setting up visits with friends & a week+ trip home to NY. Fast forward to last night...
My BFF from the age of 5 took the train in last night for the show tonight. (The Avett Brothers!
http://www.theavettbrothers.com/us/home So good!) I had agreed to bring her home (upstate NY), since I'll be visiting anyway. Her family obligations require that we need leave tomorrow at 10am to get her back. But, wait! Am I forgetting something? Why yes I am--and a text from Momma J asking if we'd like to stay over in their South Shore home made me realize that a ball had been dropped. This isn't the 1st time for me, but EVERY TIME I feel like an irresponsible, thoughtless jerkface. I can make excuses to myself and others about all the stuff going on right now, but ugh. Jerkface!
Don't fret, we have worked out a complex logistical plan that involves 3 drivers, 2 cars & some additional drivetime, but hopefully everyone gets where they need to be at the right times & all commitments are met. Crisis averted. (Jerkface!)
